Starting the process of redesigning an old 1990 Morbark 30/36 to fit a tier 4 Cat 9.3b engine. I encountered several issues along the way when trying to design the DPF and SCR system to fit under the chute. I ended up having to have the chute redesigned to make it work properly.
At this point of the install, I ran into hydraulic flow control system issues. The new engine could not have pumps mounted on a belt drive like the previous engine did, so I couldn't change the pump speed ratio like you could with different pulley sizes. The pumps the hydraulic engineering company came up with were over pressurized on one side and didn't have enough flow in the other half of the p
By the end of this job, all of the hydraulic components have been replaced or rebuilt to factory specifications and the pumps have been designed properly. The chute was built from scratch to fit above the newer and taller engine design. With all that extra weight, the frame rails had to be reinforced to prevent cracking in the future from the rough terrain this equipment works in. While it was tor
